Both the Macan and the Q8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

The battery on the Macan is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Macan’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Q8’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Macan’s reliability 40 points higher than the Q8.

Power ranks Porsche above average in initial quality. With 81 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is rated below average.

The Macan S’ standard 2.9 turbo V6 produces 40 more horsepower (375 vs. 335) and 14 lbs.-ft. more torque (383 vs. 369) than the Q8’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid. The Macan GTS’ standard 2.9 turbo V6 produces 99 more horsepower (434 vs. 335) and 36 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 369) than the Q8’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid.

On the EPA test cycle the Macan 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder gets better fuel mileage than the Q8 (19 city/25 hwy vs. 17 city/23 hwy).

The Macan offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The Q8 doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The Macan’s minimum ground clearance is 3.1 inches higher than on the Q8 (8.9 vs. 5.8 inches).

The Porsche Macan may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 800 pounds less than the Audi Q8.

The Macan is 10.5 inches shorter than the Q8, making the Macan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Macan uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Q8 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Standard Trailer Stability Management on the Macan uses the Porsche Stability Management sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Q8 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Q8’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The Macan’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

According to iSeeCars.com the 2026 Porsche Macan retains 56.06% of its original value after 5 years, significantly more than the 41.69% resale value of the 2026 Audi Q8 after five years, which can save the Porsche’s owner up to $15748 in depreciation.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Macan second among compact premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Q8 isn’t in the top three in its category.

The Macan was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 7 more times in the last 10 years. The Q8 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

The Porsche Macan outsold the Audi Q8/SQ8/RS Q8 by over two to one during 2025.
